What's New at Mariner's Village Marina
A Note to Our Friends
Hello Everyone!
First, we want to thank you all for your support of our Marina project and for the enthusiasm you've shown us. It's really kept us going through some of the more difficult days we've had getting this off the ground.
We've come a long way!
It wasn't all that long ago we started playing around with the idea of building a marina next to The Boathouse Restaurant. We'd been letting people use the dock in front of the restaurant for years, so the plan just started to come together from there.
But planning - and implementing - are two different things!
We knew we had contamination on the site from the old lumber company. But the extent of the problem was far worse than we thought - petroleum-based contamination in the ground and asbestos in the buildings. We had to hire special crews to come in and clean it up - they were actually in HazMat suits when handling the asbestos - so it was a pretty serious undertaking. Every big project has its delays, but this clean up, and all the red tape that went with it, put us behind by almost a year.
Then the real fun began. The buildings were demolished and the infrastructure put into place. We picked the best engineered building system we felt would work for our needs and hired a local company to erect it.
We've been putting together mailing lists for months - people who have asked us to keep them informed - had a professional group design brochures, billboards, and this website.
It's really coming together now (not without hiccups, of course) and we expect to have our Grand Opening Celebration August 18, if all goes well. (We'll be open for winter heated storage this year - summer storage, including the in/out valet service next spring.)
Again, thank you all for your interest and support of our "little" project.
We are pleased to be able to make a contribution to the growth of
Cheboygan and look forward to many more years of fun on the river, providing all of you great service - both at the Marina and at The Boathouse Restaurant.
